Slippery Rock HS Students Killed In Crash

Two teenagers died in a vehicle accident in Muddy Creek Township

All four of the victims involved in the accident Wednesday night either attended or graduated from Slippery Rock High School

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A local school district that has seen more than its share of fatal traffic accidents involving students is dealing with another tragedy today.

In the last seven years, ten Slippery Rock High School students have died in vehicle accidents.

Today, grief counselors and trauma teams once again greeted students to help them cope with the loss of two of their classmates.

Corey Jones, 18, of Slippery Rock, and Aaron Rensel, 18, of Portersville, died when the car they were in veered off Route 488 in Muddy Creek Township, struck a utility pole and rolled before coming to a stop.

The accident also severely injured two other young men -- Justin Angerett, 18, and Kirk Hines, 20, both of Butler.

All four of the victims involved in the deadly accident either attended or recently graduated from Slippery Rock High School.

State police say speed was a factor in the deadly crash.

State Trooper Robert Rottman who was the first trooper to arrive on the scene told KDKA that all four of the victims were thrown from the vehicle. "The occupants of the vehicle were along the roadway."

State police have yet to determine who was behind the wheel of the car.

Angerett, a standout football player at Slippery Rock, was the only survivor who was able to talk to investigators after the accident. He told police he couldn't remember what had happened.

Angerett and Hines were last reported in serious condition.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
