Police have filed charges against a second suspect in a deadly drag race in Butler County.
Christina Williams, 19, of West Sunbury, was killed when her Ford Escort was hit head-on by a car that crossed the center line on Route 308 in Clay Township last November.
Investigators say the other car was involved in a drag race.
"In an independent investigation that involved one of my detectives here in my office, they came upon some information that led them to the driver of the second vehicle," Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger said.
The affidavit supporting charges against the 18-year-old suspect says he told police the Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by the teen already facing charges in juvenile court, was leading his Eagle Talon.
The suspect tried to pass the Eclipse at speeds of 65 mph to 70 mph, and eventually reached 95 mph to 105 mph, according to police.
Investigators say the 18-year-old's car in the wrong lane lost control and hit Williams' Ford Escort.
The affidavit quotes the driver as saying he raced the Eclipse because he hated the Mitsubishi Eclipse model and called it a "future Talon," apparently reflecting a competition between Chrysler and Mitsubishi models.
"This was a race between people who had cars they didn't like the other car and for them to be racing on a two-lane road because they didn't like each other's vehicles, they thought their vehicle was better than the other vehicle, is very disturbing and obviously the end result is most disturbing because someone lost their life basically over stupidity," Goldinger said.
