Police: Speed A Factor In Deadly Butler Co. Crash

Two teenagers died and two other people are hospitalized following the violent one-car crash

State police say the vehicle was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed

Muddy Creek Township (KDKA) ― A violent crash in Butler County just before 10pm last night claimed the lives of two teenagers and sent two other people to the hospital.

According to state police, the accident happened along Route 488 in Muddy Creek Township when a Honda Civic traveling at "an apparent high rate of speed" veered off the road and smashed into a utility pole.

All four people were thrown from the car.

Corey Jones, 18, of Slippery Rock, and Aaron Rensel, 18, of Portersville, both died in the crash.

Two other people injured in the crash were flown to Pittsburgh area hospitals in serious condition.

Justin Angerett, 18, of Butler, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. Kirk Hines, 20, of Butler, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian. 

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
