Experts Speculate Replacements For Boscov's
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Now that Boscov's is closing its Monroeville and South Hills Village locations, local experts are weighing in on which retailers could fill the void.
Herky Pollock is an executive vice president for the real estate firm CB Richard Ellis/Pittsburgh.
With Nordstrom's opening in the North Hills, Pollock thinks now would be a great opportunity to open a location in the South Hills too.
A spokesperson for Nordstrom's tells KDKA, "It's too early to say. We're focusing on getting our first store open and seeing how it does."
So what else?
"Dick's Sporting Goods which is looking for new pro typical store in the South Hills and Monroeville can reposition itself their current assets and take over new spaces," Pollock said.
Dr. Audrey Guskey, a marketing professor at Duquesne University, says the days of traditional department stores are ending and that the spaces could be divided up into smaller sites.
"I'm thinking of another discounter perhaps a nice big box discount type of a store - but once again - who do we not have?," Guskey said.
Pollock says given the economy nationwide, stores we don't already have may be reluctant to expand.
But both Pollock and Guskey and others are mentioning Whole Foods as a possibility for South Hills Village.
The chain already has one store in the East End.
