Valerie Abati
Valerie Abati joined KDKA-TV in September 2007. She can be seen delivering the weather forecast during the KDKA-TV morning news, Pittsburgh Today Live and also on the noon newscast.
As a kid, Valerie grew up at Conneaut Lake and started college at Slippery Rock University until she realized she wanted to become a meteorologist. That's when she transferred to Penn State where she received a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology.
Valerie is also a member and seal holder of the American Meteorological Society.
Her weather forecasting career started at WJET-TV in Erie where she also completed an internship, from there she went on to WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, W.Va., then to WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, Tenn.
She came to KDKA-TV from FOX 19 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Two things Valerie loves are being active and trying new things. Her hobbies include volleyball, rollerblading, dance, and she's also taking golf and tennis lessons.
Valerie also says she wants Pittsburghers to know that though their names sound similar, she isn't related to KDKA morning anchor Sonni Abatta. She does have an older sister, Rachelle, and a younger brother, Brandan.
Also, she is very happy to be back in Steelers country.
