Brenda Waters
Have a positive day. That's how Brenda Waters ends the weekend morning newscast she anchors.
In addition to covering the news of the day on KDKA, Brenda also enjoys profiling unsung heroes who make a difference in their community in her "On a Positive Note" segments. Doing so earned her a Mid Atlantic Emmy.
Brenda's work has earned her several other honors, including "Who's Who Among Black Americans" and two Associated Press awards.
In addition, Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Hill District has honored Brenda twice as one of 100 outstanding women in the community.
Brenda received the Cecile B. Springer Womenpower Award recognizing women as superior role models in our society.
She has also been named a woman of distinction by the Girl Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Active in the community, Brenda serves on the Sickle Cell Anemia Board. She volunteers her time and makes contributions to several organizations including Gwen's Girls, Myriam's Women's Shelter, Lydia's Place and Women Inc. of Southwestern Pennsylvania. She also speaks at local schools and churches.
She received a bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland and a master's degree at American University.
She was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina and raised in Washington, DC by parents who told her..."the only time you look down at someone is when you are reaching down to pick them up."
In her spare time Brenda enjoys reading, singing (when no one is around) and exercising to tae bo tapes. And she never leaves home without an audio book in the car CD player.
