A young woman from Industry is facing a number of charges after officials say she was caught on a police cruiser dash camera fleeing from an officer after being pulled over in Beaver County.
Officials say the woman, 19-year-old Stephanie Tarzia was initially wanted on an assault warrant.
According to authorities, Shippingport police officer Sgt. Bob Davis pulled over Tarzia for the outstanding arrest warrant.
"Upon his approach, you can see where he told her to get out of the car and he pointed to the trunk where he directed her to go to," said State Police Sgt. Eric Hemrick. "But she gave some resistance and he reached in to place his hands on her to place her under arrest and at that point he maintained control of her arm and she threw the car in gear and took off."
With her boyfriend in the passenger seat, the young woman drove down Route 168, around traffic and then made a right on the Shippingport Bridge.
"She disregarded the stop sign, and there was at least two construction workers that had to flee the zone," said Sgt. Hemrick.
Police say she then made a right down Route168 past traffic, curving around trucks and hitting speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour.
"She put multiple lives in jeopardy," added Sgt. Hemrick.
Authorities say Officer Davis eventually was able to force her off the road on Route 68.
Officials say Tarzia told the judge at her bail hearing that she is four months pregnant. She is now being held in the Beaver County Jail on $50,000 bond. She faces four felonies and up to 20 other counts of various traffic laws.
Authorities say Tarzia's boyfriend has not been charged. Instead, they say that he assisted police in the apprehension of the young woman. She refused to open the door and he eventually leaned over, took the keys and opened the door for police.
The officer involved is going to be fine.
