Local Chrysler Dealer Sells Off New Car Inventory

HICKORY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― Local Chrysler dealers who are losing their franchises are getting rid of the last of their inventory.

On the last day of new car business at Corwin Chrysler-Jeep in Hickory, Washington County, they moved about a dozen cars.

Corwin has been in business for more than 60 years.

"After today, I don't have any franchise rights. I can't sell new Jeeps, new Chryslers – I can't do factory warranty work on Chryslers and Jeeps," Bo Corwin said. "So, from here forward, we're going to stay in the service business, parts business, the used Jeep business and the used whatever else business we want to do."

Corwin's father opened the dealership in 1945 after WWII ended and the Jeep gained popularity.

He never imagined how the new car business would end.

"I think he would be appalled at the way the manufacturer has treated us," Corwin said. "Instead of going forward with them shoulder-to-shoulder like we fought for the last 65 years day in and day out – some 20,000 days I think probably in business or something close to that," he said.

Corwin says he sold about 20 percent of his inventory to regular consumers and the remaining cars to other dealers.
