(KDKA) Consumer Reports has released its issue naming the best and worst cars for 2009.

The magazine's testers reviewed more than 260 models to help you know which ones are best and also give you the best bang for your buck.

Each vehicle is put through more than 50 tests and evaluations at Consumer Reports' state of the art Auto Test Center Track including handling, braking, fuel economy and comfort.

And each gets a rating from 100 to zero. That, coupled with a million and a half responses to the magazine's annual Auto Reliability Survey allows Consumer Reports to rate the best cars of 2009.

"They've also got proven reliability and have done well in our tests," says Consumer Reports' David Champion.

The best in-class small SUV is the Toyota Rav-4. At 23 miles per gallon, Consumer Reports likes its fuel economy and at $23,000 they think the price is right.

The best mid-sized SUV is the Toyota Highlander for its great ride and reliability.

The top-rated mini-van is the Toyota Sienna which Consumer Reports says is well-designed with great crash-test ratings.

The top pick in the pick-up category is the Chevrolet Avalanche because of its cab and cargo flexibility although it gets only 13 miles per gallon.

When it comes to sedans, Consumer Reports says the best family sedan is the Honda Accord with a roomy cabin and great crash protection.

The best small sedan is the Hyundai Elantra SE because of its price and reliability, and best upscale sedan is the Infiniti G37 with great crash avoidance.

The best green car is the Toyota Prius with high owner satisfaction scores and the highest "bang for your buck" rating over five years.

The best overall car in this year's survey is the Lexus LS460. The car that is worst in terms of holding its value over five years is the Hummer H2.
