BBB Warning: Some "Cash For Clunkers" Sites Frauds

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Better Business Bureau is issuing a new fraud warning about websites falsely claiming that consumers need to register for the upcoming "Cash for Clunkers" program.

Some sites ask for personal information -- including social security numbers.

The BBB warns that legitimate marketing for the program will never require you to provide such info.

The "Cash For Clunkers" program will provide vehicle owners with up to $4500 as an incentive for them to trade in their gas guzzler for a new car.

The program begins one week from today.

Consumers are urged to report any of this fraudulent activity by calling the toll-free hotline: 1-800-424-9071.
