A Peek At Some Cool Cars At The Auto Show
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The Pittsburgh International Auto Show rolls on through the weekend at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center downtown.
While most people are looking for something practical, there's also the chance to look at some cars that could be taking to the roads in the future.
For instance, officials with the event are showing off the Corvette ZR-1.
"The car is exotic because most of the body panels you see are carbon fiber, even the roof, and the frame is hydro-formed aluminum so we save hundreds of pounds of weight, weight plus the power gives you the extra performance you really want," said Scott Settlemire, of General Motors.
The Auto Show is also the place to check out the lightweight, one-piece Jeep Hurricane.
And while many of the automakers seem to be shying away from high-tech concept cars, there are still some unique arrivals coming to the market.
For example, the Ford Flex Crossover, which is a combo SUV/Station Wagon that can still seat eight, and the ultra-small Smart cars, which is essentially two seats and an engine for about $12,000.
But if luxury is your thing, you might consider the Bentley Continental GTC, which has a six liter, 12 cylinder engine, with top speeds of 195 miles an hour. It will set you back about $206,000 and a look at the fuel economy shows 10 miles in the city and 17 on the highway.
But Tom Rohrich, who runs one of only 32 Bentley dealerships in the country, says there is a demand for this kind of car.
"The Azure is priced at $380,000, so that's the most expensive car we have in the car show at this point," he said.
And even if you can't shell out the money, at least they are still nice to look at.
The 2008 Auto Show runs through Monday at the Convention Center, and the soors open every morning at 10 a.m.
