AOM Marks 2nd Anniversary With Walk to Victory
America on the Move is marking its 2nd anniversary in Pittsburgh with a special "Walk To Victory" this Saturday
Everyone is encouraged to come to the North Shore at 2:30pm for the event
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
America on the Move is marking its two-year anniversary this month with a "Walk To Victory" this weekend.
For the last two years, KDKA and America on the Move have been working together to help get Pittsburgh moving to a healthier lifestyle by exercising more and eating better.
The effort has already grown to include area school and businesses, and Dr. John Jakicic, the head of American on the Move in Pittsburgh told KDKA this week, "We have the evidence that it's starting to work!"
To help celebrate this important milestone, AOM is holding another special event this Saturday.
The America on the Move walk is set to kick off from the North Shore at 2:30pm just before Pitt's homecoming game.
"We're going to line up right at Dorsett Drive and General Robinson Street right there on the North Shore and make that move towards Heinz Field," explains Kim Jacobs, Executive Director of Wellness and Health and Productivity for the UPMC Health Plan. "As the band proceeds on, we'll veer off onto Art Rooney Boulevard."
The walk is only about one-mile long so organizers say anyone can participate.
"Everybody is welcome," Jacobs adds. "We're going to march forward to victory with all of the other folks and we're excited to be a part of that. We're going to have lots of giveaways, sports towels and a number of other things to help the folks celebrate this walk to victory."
Everyone is invited to come out for the event; and our own Stephanie Watson and Jim Lokay will be participating as well!
